One of my hobbies is crocheting, and has been for over 40 years. I’ve mainly made afghans, scarves and hats and, occasionally, a pair of booties or an outfit for one of my Reborn dolls. I consider myself knowledgeable enough to recognize outstanding work when I see it.
Gulden (which means Rose) learned to crochet when she was only 9 years old and has been doing it ever since. She crocheted and sold doilies about eight years ago but eventually realized how much she enjoyed making baby items, such as booties and bonnets, and seeing them on newborn babies and dolls.
Crocheting with cotton crochet thread got the best of me years ago. The crochet thread is so small, as is the crochet hook, that I never had the patience to make anything. Oh, I tried, believe me I tried, but after a couple of very frustrating hours crocheting and then pulling it apart, crocheting and pulling it apart...over and over again...I finally put it away and went back to my 3 and 4-ply yarn! I was really quite disappointed in myself because I was attempting to crochet booties for my baby-to-be. I tell you this story because Gulden uses cotton crochet thread for her booties and bonnets and her work is impeccable. Her pieces are so beautiful that I sat and stared at the photos (click to enlarge) in wonderment thinking, “How does she crochet those intricate stitchs with such precision….it’s amazing”. I had a terrible time trying to decide which of her pieces to feature because I loved every one.
Originally from Turkey, Gulden moved to the United States in 1994. She is a wife and mother (of a son) and lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia. To enjoy more of Gulden’s lovely crochet work, click on this link. Any of her creations would make a wonderful and memorable baby gift.
As always, you are invited to leave a comment about this feature.
I own several of Gulden's beautiful crocheted items and use them on my reborn dolls. All of her work is pure perfection although I do believe that this one is my favorite. :)
