If you think clay is just for kids then you haven’t seen the remarkable things that can be done with it. I’m not talking about just any clay, of course. This is all about polymer clay; a clay that can be transformed into faux bone, stone, wood, metal and glass. It can be sculpted, molded, embossed, drilled……I think you get the idea. Not only that, it comes in many wonderful colors which can be mixed to make more wonderful colors. Most importantly, it can be baked in a home oven; no need for a kiln with this clay!
Marcia Palmer found polymer clay about 5 years ago but only began to focus on it in early 2005. She had some creative ideas but wasn’t sure how to implement them. As many of us who are polymer clay aficionados, seeing an episode on HGTV encouraged her to try it.
Marcia learned basic techniques by reading “how to” books written by expert polymer clay artists. She joined a guild, the Greater Atlanta Polymer Clay Guild which, she told me, is her wonderful PC family. Marcia subsequently took some workshops from Barbara McGuire (a well-known and very talented polymer clay artist). That, Marcia said, was when her work began to take shape.
Metallic colors and texture figure greatly in Marcia’s pieces. She has found that artwork of many cultures contain the elements which inspire her, as you can see in the pieces pictured above.

Marcia occasionally sells at a local craft fair and, of course, in her Etsy shop, where you can see many more examples of her wonderful work and read the details about the pieces above.
Quoting Marcia; “When you have a piece of my work you have a piece of me”.
