Yankeegirl's Watercolors *** New Jersey

There is an art form that I’ve wanted to try for years but, for various reasons, never have….painting with watercolors. After seeing Carol Bruno’s work I have mixed feelings. On one hand, her beautiful work makes me yearn to learn but, on the other, I’m pretty intimidated; I doubt I have the innate talent to produce paintings as lovely as hers.

Carol is the artist behind the Etsy shop “Yankeegirl’s Watercolors”. She has always dabbled in artsy/craftsy types of things and, in the back of her mind, thought she would try painting “some day”. She envied people who could paint but kept putting off taking lessons herself.

A tragedy in her family, the death of her beloved older brother who was her only sibling, made Carol take a look at her own life. Her brother’s untimely death, at the age of 52, reminded her that life can be short. After recovering from her initial grief and despair, she decided to fulfill her dream of painting. She found a talented local artist/teacher, took her first lesson, and fell in love with watercolors.

Much of Carol’s inspiration comes from looking out her window because, as she puts it, she is “a crazy avid gardener”. Carol and her husband live in the small town of Little Silver, New Jersey, near the Jersey shore. She is definitely a “Jersey Girl”! She and her husband share a passion for rescuing animals, many of which have become part of the family. Not being able to have children, her rescued animals are her “babies”. Carol works part-time as a Chairside Dental Assistant but looks forward to being able to work on her art and other hobbies full-time.

The photos I have chosen for this article include three of Carol’s watercolor paintings, a print of a photograph she took in Yellowstone National Park (top, right) and an ACEO, which are Art Cards Editions and Originals; 2 ½ X 3 ½ inch collectible pieces of art (top, left), all of which are available in her Etsy shop. I know you will enjoy seeing her other works of art.

Carol continues to take classes and has made several friends who share her love for painting watercolors. She still can’t believe she is finally living her dream and, not being a person who is comfortable with “going outside her little box”, she is very proud of herself for finally taking the plunge. I’ve no doubt that her brother is looking down at her with admiration.
